Leonard Gates gooit gemiddelde van 113 en wint WDF-toernooi in Verenigde Staten

Leonard Gates heeft zaterdag de titel gepakt bij het herentoernooi van de WDF Tricoda Open in het Amerikaanse Solomons, gelegen in de staat Maryland. Het is voor 'The Soulger' zijn negentiende BDO/WDF-titel.

Gates haalde de finale van het toernooi door achtereenvolgens Lance Koss (4-0), Hector Cumba (4-0), Tom Curtin (4-2), Aaron Jalbert (4-0) en Levi Bilger (4-2) te verslaan. Tegen Jalbert wierp Gates zelfs een gemiddelde van 113.43.

In de finale trof hij landgenoot Alex Spellman. Dankzij twee 15-darters nam Gates na vijf legs een 4-1 voorsprong. Spellman verkleinde de achterstand daarna nog tot 4-2, voordat Gates de titel pakte met een 16-darter.

Het was voor Gates niet zijn enige titel, want samen met Joey Lynaugh wist Gates ook koppelcrickettoernooi te winnen. In de finale rekenden zij af met Tom Sawyer en Bruce Robbins (2-0).

Leonard Gates is back in the WDF winners' circle after triumphing at yesterday's Tricoda Open.

'Soulger' beat Alex Spellman 5-2 in the final, recording 2 15-darters and an 89.95 average.
